Prof. David Erdos wrote a letter to The Times exploring the need for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place this week in Samoa (itself a former British mandate) to recognise its historical association with Palestine, especially in this moment of profound regional crisis.

In particular, given that 70% of Commonwealth States now recognise Palestine as a State, the Commonwealth should now progress its membership application which has been stalled since 1997 pending “state sovereignty”.  The letter draws on David’s open access article in the Round Table published earlier this year which also explored the history of the 1967-1997 period.
