Code of Conduct

Here you can find out about our code of conduct, how our lawyers are regulated and how we comply with these regulations.

Our regulator

Barristers at Matrix are regulated by the Bar Standards Board, with support from the Bar Council of England & Wales. You can find out more about these organisations by visiting their websites.

Code of conduct

The members of Matrix are barristers trading as sole practitioners and are registered with the Bar Standards Board of England and Wales. They are governed by the Bar Standards Board’s Handbook and Code of Conduct (part 2 of the handbook), which is available here.

Diversity Data

The Bar Standards Board Code of Conduct states that a summary of the Diversity Data submitted by the Members of the Workforce must be published on chambers’ website by 31 December 2012 and thereafter every three years. The summary of our 2022 data collection, in accordance with these rules, can be found below and here: Matrix Diversity Data 2022.

Professional Liability Insurance

Most of our members have professional liability insurance provided by the Bar Mutual Fund Limited. The minimum cover which barristers must have is £500,000. Territorial coverage is world-wide, subject to the terms of cover of Bar Mutual, which may be accessed here.
