Immigration, Asylum and Free Movement

Members of our immigration, trafficking, asylum, and free movement team are regularly instructed in ground-breaking cases before the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, the Court of Justice of the European Union and European Court of Human Rights. Our junior members support our KCs and appear regularly in the Administrative Court, the First Tier and Upper Tribunals in their own right.

We provide expertise to UK based and international firms, NGOs and in-house legal teams in the full range of disputes including refugee protection, trafficking and modern slavery, deportation, immigration detention, EU and international law​, nationality; and all areas of immigration including family, business, students and other categories. ​Matrix barristers also provide expert reports on immigration and nationality matters for extradition and family law proceedings.

Some members have particular expertise in sensitive claims involving national security evidence before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC). Others are frequently instructed by UNHCR in strategic interventions in the appellate courts.

Our members have worked on cases in many jurisdictions including the US, ​Hong Kong, Turks & Caicos, BVI, Northern Ireland and Russia.
