Grindr has agreed to pay £26 million to settle UK group litigation alleging that the company shared UK users’ sensitive personal information, including in some cases their HIV status, with third parties for commercial purposes, in breach of UK privacy laws. The claims were brought by 11,999 claimants, who were represented by Austen Hays. The litigation began in April 2024.
In a filing submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Grindr stated, “The settlement includes no findings or admissions of liability. While Grindr disputes the allegations, it recognizes and acknowledges the distress and loss of trust expressed by some of its UK users regarding that pre-2020 period.” The full filing is available here.
