We are thrilled to welcome Hannah Burton and Barney McCay as new members.
Hannah Burton joins the Extradition Team. Hannah is an established extradition practitioner with extensive experience in cases under Parts 1 and 2 of the Extradition Act 2003. She advises individuals, foreign Governments, and judicial authorities, and represents clients at every stage of proceedings, both as junior counsel and as led junior. Hannah has experience in complex and multi-handed cases, regularly acting in matters involving multiple defendants and cross-border issues. Her practice also encompasses work under Part 3 of the Extradition Act 2003. Hannah is appointed to the CPS Specialist Extradition Advocate Panel (Level 3) and the Attorney General’s Panel of Advocates (C Panel). In addition, experience in criminal, regulatory, public and administrative law means Hannah is well placed to advise on matters involving cross-cutting issues.
Barney McCay joins the Competition Team. Barney practises in public law, environmental and planning law, and competition law (including public procurement and subsidy control). His clients include individuals, businesses, NGOs, regulators, and local and central government departments. Barney regularly acts in proceedings before the High Court (Admin, TCC, CAT) and has been instructed in cases before the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, CJEU and ECtHR. He is a member of the EHRC and AG panels of counsel and is ranked in both directories.
Rachel Holmes, Chief Executive of Matrix, says:
“We are delighted that both Hannah and Barney have joined Matrix. As well as strengthening our core extradition and competition teams respectively, Hannah and Barney also add to our wider junior public law offering. We very much look forward to working with them as they continue to develop their individual practices.”
