The Matrix Law Pod Episode 27: The Elections Bill: How worried should we be?

In the first Matrix Law Pod of 2022, Richard Hermer QC, Murray Hunt and Helen Mountfield QC, talk to Doctor Jess Garland of the Electoral Reform Society about electoral reform and the Elections Bill that is currently passing through Parliament. Whilst most would agree that our elections laws could be improved, the proposals have attracted sustained criticisms from parliamentarians and campaigners, concerned not simply that they will make voting more difficult for many but that some provisions will make it more difficult to detect and punish political corruption. If these concerns are correct, it will evidently have significant implications for the rule of law.

Richard, Murray and Helen also take a moment to reflect on 2021 and look forward to what may be to come in 2022.
