Matrix member Luis González García was mentioned in The Times earlier this week in an article concerning the question of whether the UK could potentially benefit from existing EU trade agreements after we leave the European Union. It is said that countries which have existing free trade deal agreements with the European Union “have already approached the government to signal that they wish to continue to deal with Britain on the same terms after Brexit”, according to the Secretary of State for International Trade, Dr Liam Fox.
Luis was quoted commenting on this story, noting that it is likely that the free trade agreements with these countries will require renegotiation in any event, and will not be a straightforward process. Luis is an international trade law expert, former trade negotiator and negotiated Mexico’s trade deal with Europe.
