Future Lawyers is a mentoring scheme run by Matrix that aims to provide support, advice and training to young people from under-represented groups who would like to pursue a career in the legal profession. Promoting equality and diversity is one of Matrix’s core values and priorities. As such, we want to make legal work experience accessible to a wide variety of students and have created Matrix’s Future Lawyers mentoring scheme to do just that. Students will be matched with one of our members here at Matrix in order to receive mentoring and advice to support their journey into the profession. All participants will also be invited to an advocacy and networking workshop during the year.
Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply for Future Lawyers, you must be studying for your A-Levels (or equivalent), be seeking to pursue a career in law and meet at least two of the following criteria:
- Would be the first generation in their family to attend university
- Have been in receipt of Free School Meals
- Have been in care, been a young carer, or are estranged (have lost contact with and are no longer supported by family)
- Have parent(s)/guardian(s) who qualify for means-tested benefits
- Are from an ethnic minority background
- Are a refugee/asylum seeker
- Have a disability and/or are neurodivergent
- Attend a non-fee paying school or attend a fee-paying school on a full scholarship

The recruitment process consists of a task and an interview, both to be done during your work experience placement at Matrix. More information will be given to you when you arrive for the placement.
Participants will be selected based on their performance in the task and the interview.
