The Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, announced yesterday that the UK is to grant diplomatic protection to Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian national who has been imprisoned in Iran since 2016. Mr Hunt described this as an “important diplomatic step” which “demonstrates to the whole world that Nazanin is innocent.” The grant of diplomatic protection means that the case becomes a formal legal issue between the United Kingdom and Iran.
Nazanin’s husband, Richard Ratcliffe, is advised by REDRESS along with Alison Macdonald QC of Matrix and Professor John Dugard SC and Tatyana Eatwell of Doughty Street Chambers.
