Ex FCO official Christopher Steele wrote the 2016 memoranda now known as the “Trump dossier”. BuzzFeed Inc published them online in 2017. Aleksej Gubarev, named in one of the memoranda, is suing BuzzFeed in libel in Florida. In March 2018 the Senior Master varied an order for the oral deposition of Mr Steele in the US proceedings by reducing substantially the topics on which he could be questioned. In today’s judgment, Jay J dismissed an appeal by BuzzFeed against her order, by which BuzzFeed sought to be allowed to question Mr Steele more widely.
Alex Bailin QC, Gavin Millar QC, Edward Craven and Ben Silverstone were involved in this case.
