Trans man who gave birth to a child is to be registered as “mother” on the birth certificate

The President of the Family Division held that a trans man, who gave birth to a child, was to be registered as the child’s “mother” on his birth certificate and not as his father. That conclusion was not contrary to the Gender Recognition Act 2004, and did not breach ECRH, art 8 or 14. Sarah Hannett acted on behalf of the defendant, the Registrar General, and (led by Ben Jaffey QC) on behalf of the Secretaries of State interveners.
