Widowed Parents’ Allowance limitation discriminates against unmarried parents


In Re an application by Siobhan Mclaughlin for Judicial Review (NI) [2018] UKSC 48, the Supreme Court rules that Widowed Parents’ Allowance payable in Northern Ireland discriminates against unmarried parents, contrary to ECHR, art 14 read in conjunction with art 8 (right to a private family life) and art 1 of Protocol 1 (protection of property).
