Siobhan McLaughlin and the Department for Communities Judicial Review to be heard in the UKSC

On Monday 30th April 2018, Helen Mountfield QC represented Child Poverty Action Group in the Supreme Court in Belfast, instructed by Herbert Smith Freehills, leading Tom Royston of Garden Court North. This is first time the Supreme Court has sat in Northern Ireland. The case concerned whether a widowed parents allowance payable only to surviving parents who were married to, or in a civil partnership with, the deceased parent discriminates against children born out of wedlock, in relation to the protection for their family life.
