Sikh Federation (UK) granted Judicial Review over 2021 Census

The Sikh Federation (UK) has been granted permission to bring a Judicial Review in the High Court, arguing that the decision to exclude a tick box option for Sikh ethnic origin in the forthcoming 2021 Census is unlawful. The case, brought by Amrik Singh Gill, Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) has the support of over 150 Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations and claims that the Office for National Statistics failed to apply its published evaluation criterion to its assessment of whether to include a Sikh ethnic group tick box, and failed to apply its evaluation criterion consistently across the questions and response options considered for inclusion in the 2021 Census.
