Mr Christopher Cash was today acquitted of allegations that he had provided information to another person which might be, or was intended to be, useful to China, following a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service to offer no evidence against him and his co-defendant.

Mr Cash was previously the Director of the China Research Group, a think-tank and lobbying group regarding China-UK relations.

Mr Cash had consistently denied any allegations of wrongdoing. He denied ever working on behalf of, or providing information to, the Chinese Government.

The prosecution indicated that it was offering no evidence because, following a careful review of the case, it considered that there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.

Tim James-Matthews acted for Mr Cash, led by Henry Blaxland KC, and instructed by Alastair Lyon at Birnberg Peirce.
