On 28 October 2025, Prof. Philip Leach spoke at a roundtable in Moldova. The discussion, aimed at Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judges and prosecutors, explored the re-opening of proceedings at the domestic level following a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights.
The roundtable was part of the Council of Europe’s project ‘Strengthening the human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova’.
The aim of the project is to further ensure higher respect for human rights in the functioning of the criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova by assisting the national authorities to build an effectively functioning criminal justice system which is in line with European human rights standards, based on the principles of humanisation, resocialisation and restorative justice.
