Fixed Term membership is unique to Matrix and has been initiated to allow our membership to encompass specialists who work at the cutting edge of their areas of expertise, but who are not necessarily practising barristers. We are delighted to welcome Cathryn, Devika, Diamond, James, and Philip who will be active members at Matrix and will provide specialist consulting and other input into our many practice areas.
Diamond is a leading academic in EU, labour/employment, and equality law. Her research focuses on EU social and labour law; on informal and non-standard work (‘zero hours’ contracts, agency work, platform-mediated work); and on the legacies of colonialism for contemporary employment. Diamond is a Professor of Law at the University of Kent.
Cathryn’s expertise is in public international, EU and comparative public law on asylum and migration. Her research explores the legal aspects of the global governance of migration and refugeehood, including the role of new technologies in this field and questions relating to the legal responsibility of international organisations. Cathryn is a Full Professor of Global Refugee and Migration Law at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin.
James specialises in public international law, with a particular emphasis on international human rights, queer rights, and refugee law. James’ publications include a leading treatise on the refugee definition, an interdisciplinary study of models for refugee law reform, and The Rights of Refugees under International Law. James is the Degan Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Michigan.
Devika specialises in international criminal law, universal jurisdiction, international dispute resolution, Security Council practice and the law relating to the use of force. Devika is an associate professor of international law at the London School of Economics.
Philip is a leading authority in international human rights law and co-founded the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre, which has mentored and supported lawyers and NGOs in the former Soviet region. Philip is a human rights lawyer and a Professor of Human Rights Law at Middlesex University.
