Navinder Singh Sarao refused permission to appeal extradition to the United States

Published:

Navinder Singh Sarao was refused permission to appeal his extradition to the United States, where he will face trial for ‘spoofing’ the market in futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange between 2009 and 2014. The case has been linked to the widely reported Flash Crash of 6 May 2010. Mr Sarao had appealed the District Judge’s decision on whether the conduct alleged by the US government would constitute an offence in the UK, whether the extradition request fairly described the conduct alleged and finally whether it was in the interests of justice for Mr Sarao to be tried in the US rather than in the UK. All three grounds of appeal were rejected by Gross LJ and Nicol J. Mark Summers QC and Aaron Watkins acted for the Government of the United States.
