Judgment has been handed down in Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) and Others v. Russia.
The European Court of Human Rights held that measures taken against organisations connected with Aleksey Navalnyy, his family and associates violated Article 8 (right to respect for private and family life, the home and correspondence), Article 10 (freedom of expression), Article 11 (freedom of association), Article 18 (limitation on use of restrictions on rights) and Article 1 Protocol No. 1 (protection of property) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
These measures included coordinated mass searches of homes and offices, seizure of property during these searches, freezing of bank accounts, the FBK’s listing as a “foreign agent” and its subsequent designation, along with the other applicant organisations, as “extremist”.
Prof. Philip Leach acted for Aleksey Navalnyy, Yuliya Navalnaya, the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) and others.
