Matthew Ryder KC and Ifeanyi Odogwu named to this year’s “Football Black List”


Matrix barristers, Matthew Ryder KC and Ifeanyi Odogwu, have both been named to this year’s “Football Black List”. The list features the most influential of African and African-Caribbean heritage in English football, including current players and former players, as well as those who hold positions of influence and authority off the pitch.

Since 2023, Matthew Ryder KC, has been a non-executive director of the Premier League and is one of its five board members. In addition to being one of the leading KCs in regulatory, data, criminal and public law, Mathew was appointed  Deputy Mayor of London from 2016-2018 under London Mayor Sadiq Khan. He is also a member of the Guardian Media Group’s proprietary board, the Scott Trust.

Ifeanyi Odogwu is ranked as one of the leading junior barristers in sports law. He was recently nominated for Sports Lawyer of the Year at The Legal 500 Bar Awards 2023. He acts for players, agents, clubs, and sports governing bodies across the range of commercial matters, disputes, misconduct hearings, litigation, and arbitration. Ifeanyi has significant experience in the football industry in particular and has worked on a variety of high-profile transfers, commercial endorsement deals and disputes.
