The first hearing in the Manston Inquiry was heard yesterday. The Inquiry, chaired by Sophie Cartwright KC, is examining the significant overcrowding, deplorable conditions and mistreatment of thousands of vulnerable asylum seekers at a holding facility in Kent in Autumn 2022. There were outbreaks of infectious disease, one of the detainees died, while others suffered a range of serious ill-treatment.
Jesse Nicholls acts for two groups of 75 and 20 victims within the Inquiry, instructed by Duncan Lewis and Deighton Pierce Glynn. Zoe McCallum also acts for Deighton Pierce Glynn in the Inquiry.
