Leeds United employee wins unfair dismissal and sex discrimination case

Lucy Ward, a Leeds United employee has won her case for unfair dismissal and sex discrimination against the football club.

Ms Ward worked as the welfare and education officer at the club and claimed that she was dismissed because of her relationship with the former head coach Neil Redfearn. The club dismissed these allegations and argued that Ms Ward was sacked for exceeding her annual leave entitlement.  The judge ruled that the club’s alleged reasons for dismissal were a ‘sham’ and agreed with Ms Ward’s legal team that Leeds United had taken a ‘sexist’ viewpoint. Nicholas Randall QC acted as counsel for Ms Ward.
