KlimaSeniorinnen Schweiz – ECHR Grand Chamber hearing today


Strasbourg, France - September 18, 2009: European Court of Human Rights building in Strasbourg, France. ECHR is a international court established by the European Convention on Human Rights.

The first human rights climate change case Verein KlimaSeniorinnen Schweiz and others v Switzerland – to be selected by the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is being heard today.

Jessica Simor KC is instructed by the Association of Swiss Climate Senior Women to represent more than 2000 retired Swiss women, in their challenge to Switzerland’s failure to take sufficient action to protect their lives and health from climate change.

The ruling by the Grand Chamber on States’ human rights obligations in the context of climate change will have significant impact worldwide.
