Julian Knowles QC has scored an important judicial review victory for a firm of solicitors, in R (MRH Solicitors Limited) v. Manchester County Court EWHC 1795. The High Court held that a county court judge had acted unlawfully in making findings that a firm of solicitors had behaved fraudulently in relation to litigation without giving it an opportunity to be heard. The case is the first time in which the High Court has struck down findings of the County Court in such circumstances. The High Court also held that the judge should recuse himself from future hearings on the case on the grounds of apparent bias. Julian was instructed by Ramona Mehta and Hannah Blom-Cooper of Mishcon de Reya.
