Judicial review of passport policy on gender identifiers dismissed

Published:

The Administrative Court has dismissed an application for judicial review of the policy of Her Majesty’s Passport Office to require those who apply for the issue of a passport to declare whether their gender is male or female, and not to issue passports bearing an X marker (indicating an unspecified sex). The Court rejected the argument that the policy breaches ECHR, art 8 in conjunction with art 14.

Sarah Hannett was involved in this case.
