Jessica Jones defends landmark unregistered school prosecution

Published:

Jessica Jones, instructed by Tuckers Solicitors, acted for three defendants this week in the first ever prosecution under the Education and Skills Act 2008.

The defendants were charged with running an unregistered school in West London. Although the judge accepted that the Al-Istiqamah Learning Centre had grown out of a home education group and had been a victim of its own success, she found that the education provided there was “full-time” and was provided to more than 5 children, breaching the registration requirements of the 2008 Act. The defendants received a 12-week community order.
