An inquest has commenced before HM Senior Coroner for West London concerning the death of Mr Mark Milsome. Mr Milsome was fatally injured during the filming of a stunt driving sequence in Ghana for the BBC/Netflix series ‘Black Earth Rising’. At the time of Mark’s death, production were filming a stunt sequence in which a Land Rover was to crash by rolling onto its side. Instead, the vehicle drove over the ramp, and collided with the camera position manned by Mark.

The inquest will consider the design and planning of the stunt, the adequacy of the decision-making regarding the placement of the manned camera, why the stunt went wrong, and the relevant policies and procedures which should have governed production health and safety.

Adrian Waterman QC and Tim James-Matthews are instructed by Neill Blundell and Francis Bond of Macfarlanes LLP on behalf of Mark’s parents and sister.
