Home Office considers medical cannabis trial for child with rare genetic condition

Published:

The Home Office have announced that they are considering permitting a “trial” of a cannabis-based drug specifically to treat a 5 year old boy with an extreme and life-threatening form of epilepsy resulting from his rare genetic condition. The drug was prescribed to him successfully in the Netherlands but, unless the Home Office grant a licence, it would be a criminal offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 for it to be given to him here in the UK.
