In a judgment handed down on 19 December by Lord Justice Lewis and Mr Justice Swift, the High Court has ruled that the Government’s policy to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is lawful.

The High Court has also ruled that decisions made in the cases of eight individual asylum seekers – due to be sent to Rwanda earlier this year – were unlawful and will have to be reconsidered by the Home Secretary.

Raza Husain KC, Phillippa Kaufmann KC and Anirudh Mathur acted for the claimants comprising individual asylum seekers, the Public and Commercial Services Union, Detention Action and Care4Calais, instructed by Duncan Lewis.
