Employment Appeal Tribunal to hear appeal by Gerard Coyne against a ruling of the Certification Officer’s ruling. Gavin Millar QC representing Mr Coyne.

Gerard Coyne was the runner up to the incumbent, Len McCluskey, in an election for General Secretary of Unite the Union in April 2017. He made a complaint to the Certification Officer that the election, held within the fixed five year term of the incumbent, had been called unlawfully. The Certification Officer ruled against him on 4 May 2018 and on 12 June the Employment Appeal Tribunal will hear an appeal by Mr Coyne against a ruling of the Certification Officer’s ruling which turns on the interpretation of the rules of the union. Gavin Millar QC is representing Mr Coyne.
