Divisional Court quashes CPS decision not to prosecute UAE diplomat for trafficking

Published:

A Divisional Court has quashed a CPS decision not to prosecute a diplomat from the United Arab Emirates for trafficking a domestic worker. The CPS had failed properly to consider whether the woman’s account of being paid just 41p per hour, a fraction of the £1,000 per month she was promised, was sufficient to make out the offence. The judges, Hickinbottom LJ and Sweeney J, ordered the CPS to remake the decision as to whether to charge the diplomat and his wife.

Chris Buttler was involved in the case.
