Craig Wright libel appeal dismissed

The Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal of Dr Wright against the order of Chamberlain J awarding him nominal £1 damages for libel after he was found to have advanced a “deliberately false” case at trial as to serious reputational harm.

Dr Wright, who claims to be ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’, the creator of Bitcoin, argued the award was wrong in law. The CA rejected the argument, holding that his lies were relevant to ascertaining entitlement to vindication where the libel sued on was also one of dishonesty.

Catrin Evans KC and Ben Silverstone (assisted by Mariyam Kamil) acted for the defendant, Peter McCormack, instructed by RPC LLP.
