Court of Appeal hears appeal by Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba against erasure decision

The Court of Appeal will today hear an appeal by Dr Bawa-Garba against the decision of the Divisional Court to order her erasure from the medical register. In February 2017 The General Medical Council’s Medical Practitioners Tribunal, having found Dr Bawa-Garba’s fitness to practise to be impaired, suspended her registration as a doctor. In January 2018 the Divisional Court allowed the GMC’s appeal, and substituted an order of erasure.

The British Medical Association, the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care and the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) are intervening in the appeal.

James Laddie QC, Sarah Hannett and Karon Monaghan QC are involved in this appeal.
