Matrix is delighted to announce that Claire Darwin KC has been appointed as a Recorder following an open competition run by the Judicial Appointments Commission. Her appointment commences on 30 May 2023. Claire will sit as a Recorder for up to 30 days each year and will continue to practice full time from Matrix.
Claire Darwin KC is recognised as a leading silk by the Chambers UK Bar Guide and the Legal 500. She has been described variously as “Absolutely exceptional on her feet”, “very forensic, pragmatic and client-friendly”, “tenacious and up for a fight; always gives it her all” and “a thoughtful advocate who brings a novel perspective to her cases”. Prior to her appointment as King’s Counsel in 2023, she was ranked as one of the top employment juniors practising at the London Bar.
Recent highlights from Claire’s practice include the judicial review of the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses (Amendment) Regulations 2022 which allow agency workers to be provided to cover strikes; acting for a University in the proposed group litigation brought by university students seeking compensation for the impact of the pandemic and industrial action on their studies, and acting for the successful Appellant in Secretary of State for Work and Pensions v Beattie [2023] IRLR 13, [2023] Pens. L.R. 3.
