Chris Kaba: IOPC refer case to the CPS for criminal charges

Chris Kaba, 24, was fatally shot by a firearms officer from the Metropolitan Police shortly after 10pm on 5 September 2022 in South London. His death prompted significant public outcry.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (‘IOPC) conducted a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting, and on Thursday referred the case to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration of a potential murder charge against the firearms officer.

Matrix barristers Matthew Ryder KC and Ifeanyi Odogwu represent Chris’ mother, Nkama (Helen) Lumuanganu, and are instructed by Hickman and Rose solicitors.

Hickman and Rose solicitors and INQUEST have issued a statement.
