Carbon Journey exhibition now on display at Matrix

Published:

Matrix is delighted to announce the launch of a powerful exhibition from the “Carbon Journey” photographic series by acclaimed British photographer Matthew Webb.

Webb is renowned for his subtle, thoughtful studies on modernisation and the environment. The exhibition now installed at Matrix presents images of low carbon livelihoods from across Russia and other former Soviet Union countries taken between 2010 and 2014.

The internationally touring exhibition “Carbon Journey” has been shown at the Russian State Darwin museum to over 80,000 visitors, has received awards from the Russian Federation of Culture and the Moscow Department of Culture, has been shown in museums and galleries across the former Soviet Union.

The works presented include characters such as Sergey from Minsk who has, despite all odds, grown an organic farm business and ecotourist resort, Marat a former soldier in the Soviet Army who now leads expeditions in remaining green space around Almaty in Kazakhstan and Bava who leads us to a gas crater alight in the middle of the Karakoum desert.

Lindsay Scott, CEO of Matrix, said “At Matrix, we have a strong tradition of working at the intersection of Environmental and Human Rights law, working with governments and NGOs to help them assess the impact of their environmental policies. Our Core Values also highlight Matrix’s commitment to minimising our own contributions to Climate Change. We’re therefore delighted to support this exhibition, as it aims to communicate the personal stories of people thriving in their environment whilst having the least possible impact on their surroundings.”
