Mr Justice Cobb refused an application to declare a marriage entered into in 2009, between a trans man without a gender recognition certificate and a woman, to be valid. The Court held that as the trans man did not have a GRC, he must be treated legally as female. It followed that the marriage had been conducted between two women. At the relevant time, a marriage conducted between two women was void at its inception.
Sarah Hannett acted as Advocate to the Court. For judgment, see here.
