Anirudh Mathur Represents Interveners in Landmark Electoral Rights Case Against Poland

Published:

Anirudh Mathur represents third-party interveners in Brejza and Others v. Poland, a pivotal case before the European Court of Human Rights challenging the former Polish government’s use of Pegasus spyware against opposition politicians between 2015 – 2023.

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and Stanford Law School’s Rule of Law Impact Lab – where Anirudh serves as an expert advisor – were permitted to intervene by the Court. Their submission focuses on violations of the right to free elections, under Article 3 Protocol 1 (A3P1) of the European Convention on Human Rights, and broader international legal standards.

The case is set to shape the evolving contours of electoral rights pursuant to A3P1 and is likely to have broader implications for safeguarding democratic integrity in Europe.
