Alleged victims of ill-treatment by British forces in Iraq must be notified of outcome of decision on whether to investigate

This case involved victims of inhuman or degrading treatment by British soldiers operating in Iraq. The court ruled that although inquiries should not be commenced until investigations had been concluded, the claimant needed to be notified of those decisions on whether to investigate. It also stated that a claimant wishing to challenge that decision would need to show that their case raised systematic issues which required investigation.

Danny Friedman QC and Daniel Squires were involved in this case.
