ICEL Brexit Series – Implications for Financial Services

Professor Takis Tridimas delivered the key note speech in the first of a series of conferences on Brexit organized by the Irish Centre of European Law at the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin on 22 February. The conference theme was Brexit – Implications for Financial Services. Other speakers included Oghan Murphy T.D. , Minister of State for Financial Services, eGovernment and Public Procurement, and Sharon Donnery, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland. The conference was presided by his Honour Mr Justice Max Barrett. Takis sought to assess the likely impact of Brexit on the regulation of financial institutions and its implications for London as a global financial center. He focused, among others, on mapping out possible future legal regimes governing access of UK based firms to EU markets, and the regulation of credit institutions, investment services and market infrastructures.
