The actor, writer and director Noel Clarke has been ordered to pay the costs incurred by the Guardian in successfully defending his libel claim. Mr Clarke sued over eight articles alleging sexual and professional misconduct by him over a number of years when he was working in the film and television industry.
In August, after a six week trial, the High Court upheld the Guardian’s defences of truth and public interest speech.
The trial judge, Steyn J, has now ordered Mr Clarke to pay £3m on account within 28 days, in respect of a likely eventual costs liability of over £6m.
