Zaina summarises her week at Matrix and what she is up to now: “Completing a work placement at Matrix Chambers in 2009 was one of the earliest experiences I had of a career in law and I have not looked back since. It gave me the motivation to succeed and it also played a major role in my decision to pursue law at university, for which I achieved a first class. It has also helped to secure various placements at leading city law firms. Gaining an insight into life as a barrister was most fulfilling, particularly as I was able to determine whether it was a path I could see myself going down. I was fortunate enough to see Cherie Booth QC in action in criminal cases in court, as well as observe the formalities of the court process. Further, whilst studying various modules throughout my degree, I read various cases which had been fought by Matrix and it was exciting knowing that I had met these barristers who are clearly leaders in their fields. Though I have decided not to pursue a career as a barrister, it has taught me much about their role when working alongside solicitors. I am currently working in professional indemnity insurance and will be progressing to complete the Legal Practice Course, ultimately with the aim of pursuing a career as a commercial lawyer. I am grateful for all that Matrix Chambers has done for me and for a truly memorable week.”
