In 2007, Alex (aged 18 at the time) spent a week here at Matrix. We got in touch with him and asked him what he made of the time he spent here and what he was up to now. This is what he said: “I did a week-long placement at Matrix Chambers in July 2007. I hoped that even in a week I would find out more clearly what a barrister does on a day to day basis and whether I thought it was a career that I would be suited to. Even in a week, I learnt a great deal about the daily exertions of a barrister and how they go about their working lives from the start to the end of an individual case. It was interesting to work alongside several barristers and see how they work at different stages in their career. It definitely served to further my interest in the law and also my admiration for the work barristers undertake and make look routine on a daily basis. Even though I did enjoy my time at Matrix, I decided that the bar was not for me but have chosen to follow a career in law; I have recently started a training contract at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.” Well done, Alex!
