Chris’ comments on his time with Matrix: “The team at Matrix Chambers created an experience that went above and beyond my expectations. Prior to this I, honestly, considered pre-university work experience as completing ostensibly menial tasks in the back room; since my time at Matrix this view has been revised considerably. I found it to be a challenging and practical experience from the beginning which is typified by how I was whisked away to Westminster Courts within 15 minutes of first walking in the door. Needless to say, this was not a one off. Throughout the week I was able to accompany Matrix’s barristers to a variety of cases that covered many different areas of law and taught me about the work that goes into each individual case. Not only this, but before each hearing I was given the opportunity to discuss cases with barristers as we made our way to court. Contrary to some contemporary media perceptions of lawyers, the barristers at Matrix proved themselves to be very approachable when explaining their skeleton arguments and perspectives. Whilst not in court I either spent my time with Matrix’s Legal Information Team, who gave me my first insight into précising cases, or completing general work, such as taking legal notes to court, with the Matrix team. Furthermore the team as a whole were very forthcoming with advice on different pathways into law and I feel I have come out of this with both a clearer idea of how a chambers functions and a stronger sense of direction for my future.”
