‘What is Work Experience like at Matrix?’ By Polina and Sophia, aged 16 from Essex.
“Being at Matrix Chambers allows you to not only be part of the preparation research for barristers’ cases, but also to experience the working day of a barrister. After spending the week at Matrix we were able to build upon our knowledge of law and also talk to the barristers about their case which is something we’ve never had the opportunity to do before. We feel as though after experiencing work at Matrix we’ve gained a real insight into the world of law and can now feel confident about our future career, be that a path as a barrister or solicitor or someone who assists barristers with their work in chambers. Throughout this week, we have gained the qualities that are needed when working in a formal environment as well as research skills and picking out key bits of information – a useful skill for those looking for a career in law. The things you do in Matrix truly are a once in a lifetime opportunity, being able to witness trials is something that we found really special and the advice given to us by the barristers is something we’re very privileged to have received. As well as the skills mentioned above, we have also gained better organisational skills and can use these in the future. We appreciated how welcoming everyone was at Matrix and how they made us feel part of the team rather than just students to do mundane tasks. Our week at Matrix has been a short one, yet we’ve learned a lot from it and can definitely say that our understanding of law has improved. We’re honoured to have been part of Matrix and would love to come back again in the near future.”
