Rodney Dixon practises in the criminal and public law and human rights fields at both the national and international levels.  His areas of practise cover: Criminal Law, both prosecution and defence work; International Criminal Law, particularly Extradition and Mutual Assistance; War Crimes and International Humanitarian Law; Administrative Law and Judicial Review; Human Rights and European Law; Public International Law; Licensing Law and Civil Litigation, especially with human rights or international law dimensions.

Having practised in South Africa and at the International War Crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague for 5 years, he transferred to the English Bar at the end of 1999.  He currently specialises in work in the following areas:

International criminal law:
- Currently instructed to represent former Prime Minister of Kosovo on charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)
- Defence Counsel in lengthy trial for former General of the Bosnian Army on charges of war crimes and command responsibility before the ICTY from 2004-2005
- Advised and consulted in respect of cases and procedures before other international criminal courts including the Rwanda Tribunal, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Iraqi Special Tribunal, the Special Court for Cambodia, and the War Crimes Chamber for Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Extradition - instructed in various extradition and European Arrest Warrant cases including requests  from, and inquiries by, the USA, Argentina, Germany, Nigeria, Czech Republic, Kenya, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Romania, South Africa, and France; and, “return to the UK” matters
- Mutual Assistance - represented clients and witnesses in mutual assistance proceedings for the receipt of oral evidence for use in foreign jurisdictions, and in respect of disclosure issues

International work:
- Privy Council - represented the Government of Mauritius in numerous applications for leave and full appeals before the Privy Council for criminal and civil matters
- UN liability work - represented and advised clients on insurance and other claims against the UN, and in respect of the UN Administrative Tribunal, including for a UN consultant seriously injured in the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad
- Government - advice work for governments in respect of ICC issues, the UN, and co-operation with international criminal courts

Criminal law and Human rights:
- Conducted numerous Crown Court trials for Prosecution and Defence (mainly) for serious offences, including fraud, money laundering, robbery, drugs importation, disqualification of directors, and confiscation matters
- Corporate manslaughter - represented company on charges of corporate manslaughter for building collapse
- Appeals - acted in cases before the Court of Appeal, Criminal and Civil, in cases involving human rights and other points
- European Court of Human Rights - advised on applications under the UK Human Rights Act and prepared applications under the European Convention on Human Rights for submission to the ECHR

Administrative law:
- Appointed in February 2006 to Attorney General's Treasury Panel C
- Judicial review - acted in judicial review applications on criminal and civil matters 
- Prisons - represented ‘lifers’ at parole board hearings
- Licensing - undertaken various licensing applications and advice work in this field, including on the revision of by-laws for the central London area

Civil:
- Insurance - advised on insurance matters in respect of claims for unlawful deaths
- Asset Recovery Agency - acted in cases in the High Court under the new asset recovery regime of the Proceeds of Crime Act
- Law Society - acted on behalf of the Law Society in claims in the High Court
- Litigation - represented clients in claims and applications for restraining orders in the High Court
