The Cartagena Protocol is a protocol under the 1992 Biodiversity Convention agreed at in Rio de Janeiro. The Convention is a comprehensive framework for dealing with all aspects of biodiversity, whereas the Cartagena Protocol addresses the specific issues surrounding the sustainable and safe use of biotechnology in relation to the environment. Kate Cook was one of the contributors to the drafting of the Cartagena Protocol.
