Aileen is Professor of Human Rights Law at King's College London, and has written very extensively in that capacity on discrimination, labour and human rights law.
She is the UK National Expert on the European Network of Legal Experts in the Field of Gender Equality and was the senior legal adviser on the “Mapping study on existing national legislative measures and their impact in tackling discrimination - outside the field of employment and occupation - on the grounds of sex, religion or belief, disability, age and sexual orientation” carried out for the European Commission in 2006. She also acted as the legal expert on a major European Union survey on sexual harassment carried out under the auspices of the Irish Presidency in 2004, was legal adviser to the Forum on a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland in 2007-8 and a member of the Local Government Pay Commission in 2002-2003. Aileen is an internationally acknowledged expert on pay equality and discrimination and she has been involved in strategic advisory work for trade unions and the various equality commissions, and latterly for the CEHR.
Vice president of the Institute for Employment Rights, Aileen has conducted human rights training for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and (through the FCO) for the Turkish military and lay judiciary. She has also done extensive training on human rights, employment and discrimination training for trade unions, LAG and other bodies, including equality and diversity training for the Bar Council. She is co-editor of the European Human Rights Law Review.
