Matrix is a legal practice that was set up to modernise the environment in which barristers work and the way in which their professional practices are managed and developed.
We have been running a successful programme of work experience placements since spring 2001. We aim to give students on work placements a taste of work in a modern legal practice and busy office environment.
* The placements are aimed at attracting students doing GCSEs and A levels, or equivalent and usually ages between 14 and 19 years of age. Unfortunately we do not take students at university although those thinking of applying for traineeship can attend one of our student open days.
The duties students can expect to undertake during a work placement at Matrix include: · Photocopying · Filing · Taking barristers’ papers to court · Delivering documents · Dealing with post · Other ad hoc administrative duties
There is considerable demand for placements at Matrix so we are not able to offer everyone a slot. Due to the popularity of the program and in order that we give as many students an opportunity, from as wide a variety as possible we usually only take one student per school per year.
In selecting students for work experience we actively seek to promote equality of opportunity and access to the legal profession and employment. In accordance with our Core Values we give priority to applications from students who can demonstrate that they would not normally be able to have the privilege of this type of work experience placement. We particularly seek applications from members of ethnic minority communities and those groups who would traditionally be under-represented in the legal profession and office environment. In order to help us process your application we would be grateful if you would let us know (by completing and returning the application form which can be found as a download to the right of this page):
· What date you would like to come to Matrix (see Available dates to the right of this page) · How you heard about us · Why you would particularly like to come to Matrix and why you have applied · What your aims are for the placement and what you hope to achieve during it · How you fit in to our priority to promote access as explained above
In support of your application please ask a teacher/guardian/family friend to give a short testimonial explaining how they consider you would benefit from a placement with Matrix and why it would be appropriate for us to offer you such a placement.
Please don't hesitate to contact Lindsay Howell on 020 7404 3447 if you would like to discuss any aspect of work experience at Matrix.
All application forms should be returned either by post or by email to:
