Professor Zachary Douglas was named by Chambers and Partners as international arbitration junior of the year in 2011. Gillian Morris is a Deputy Chair of the Central Arbitration Committee and a member of the Acas Panel of Arbitrators. These individuals have served as counsel and arbitrators in numerous commercial, sports and investment treaty arbitrations.
The interest in alternative forms of dispute resolution or ADR is stimulated by the growing cost of litigation and a recognition that the interests of various parties to disputes are often best served by mediating issues rather than heading straight to contentious proceedings. Increasingly arbitration and mediation tools are being deployed in areas such as employment and education as well as more the more established commercial field. A number of members of Matrix are already trained and accredited as mediators (Cherie Booth QC, Professor Gillian Morris, Maurice Sheridan, Rhodri Thompson QC, Hugh Tomlinson QC).
